BACOA Garlands 2012 Lecture Series
Expand your horizons at a new lecture series developed by the Harper College Continuing Education Lifelong Learning Institute and co-sponsored by the Barrington Area Council on Aging and The Garlands of Barrington.
Six different lecture topics will be covered in the series, which will run from late January until July. See complete schedule. Classes will meet at The Garlands of Barrington, 1000 Garlands Lane, Barrington. All classes meet for one day only, except for “Short Story Treasures,” which meets for 10 sessions. Cost ranges from free to $20.

Italian Vacation Seminar

BACOA, along with The Garlands of Barrington and Ela Township 55 Plus, will host an informational seminar on an upcoming Collette Vacations trip to Italy. The lecture and slide presentation will focus on the trip’s itinerary, which will include Taormina, Alberobello and the Amalfi Coast. Coffee and Italian pastries will be served afterward. "Take Charge of Your Diabetes"
Thursdays, April 3 - May 8; 9:30-noon
The Garlands of Barrington
Learn how to thrive—not simply survive—with diabetes. BACOA, in partnership with AgeOptions and The Garlands of Barrington, will offer “Take Charge of Your Diabetes” a six-week health education class for adults 55 and over.
The program uses the Stanford University’ Patient Education Research Center’s Diabetes Self-Management Program which has proven successful for diabetes management. Topics covered in the six-week class will include decision-making and problem-solving skills; exercise, managing fatigue, managing pain and stress, nutrition and communications. Medication and treatment decisions will also be discussed.
